Troubleshoot custom domain connections

Pagecloud AI Sites and classic Pagecloud sites use different DNS records and status controls. Confirm the site type before troubleshooting.

You have an AI Site if the editor includes Ask Paige, Your theme, and Media library.

If you have an AI Site

  1. Open Project dashboard, then Custom domain.
  2. Select Check status.
  3. Review the status and displayed records for both the root and www hostnames.
  4. Compare every displayed record with your DNS provider.
  5. Correct any record that is missing, has a different value, or has the domain name repeated twice.

Use only the values displayed for this AI Site. Verification records can be unique to the domain and can change if the domain is removed and added again.

If the provider does not support ANAME or ALIAS records, expand No ANAME/ALIAS support? Use A records instead and add every fallback A and TXT record shown.

The domain is ready only when both hostnames show DNS connected and SSL active.

If you have a classic Pagecloud site

  1. Open the site’s Domain setup.
  2. Confirm the DNS records match the classic values in Connect a custom domain to Pagecloud.
  3. Remove conflicting website records for @ and www.
  4. Select Test connection.
  5. Confirm SSL is enabled after the connection succeeds.

Common DNS problems

Changes were made in the wrong account

Edit records at the provider that controls the domain’s authoritative nameservers. This may be different from the company where you bought the domain.

A record name is wrong

Most providers use @ for the root domain. Some use a blank name or the full domain. Follow that provider’s format.

A verification name is repeated

Some providers automatically append your domain. If Pagecloud displays _acme-challenge.example.com, the provider may require only _acme-challenge in the name field.

Old records conflict

Remove old A, AAAA, CNAME, forwarding, or parking records for the same website hostname. Do not remove MX, DKIM, SPF, or other email records.

The records were changed recently

DNS changes often appear within a few hours but can take up to 48 hours. Use Pagecloud’s status check again after propagation.

The domain connects but https fails

Follow Fix SSL certificate errors. SSL cannot finish until the routing and verification records are correct for both hostnames.

The domain opens the wrong Pagecloud site

The domain may still be attached to another project or using its DNS records. Follow Switch which site uses a custom domain.

Still not connected?
