Switch which site uses a custom domain

A custom domain can be attached to only one Pagecloud site at a time. Moving between an AI Site and a classic Pagecloud site also requires new DNS records.

Expect a short interruption while the domain is detached, added to the destination, and verified. DNS changes can extend that interruption.

Before switching the domain

1. Publish the destination site and test it at its Pagecloud address.
2. Confirm you can sign in to the provider that manages the domain’s DNS.
3. Save a copy or screenshot of current DNS records, especially email records.
4. Decide whether the root domain or www should be preferred.
5. Make the switch during a lower-traffic period if downtime matters.

Do not delete MX or other email records while changing website DNS.

Step 1: Remove the domain from the current site

From an AI Site

1. Open the site’s Project dashboard.
2. Select Custom domain in the project sidebar.
3. Select Remove domain for the connected domain.
4. Confirm the removal.

From a classic Pagecloud site

1. Open the site dashboard.
2. Open Domain setup.
3. Disconnect the custom domain and confirm.

The old site remains available at its Pagecloud address after the custom domain is removed.

Step 2: Add the domain to the destination site

To an AI Site

1. Open the destination site’s Project dashboard.
2. Select Domain.
3. Enter the domain under Custom domain and select Add domain.
4. Pagecloud displays the DNS records for this site and domain.
5. At your DNS provider, replace the old website records with every record Pagecloud displays.
6. If ANAME or ALIAS is unsupported, use every fallback A and TXT record shown in Pagecloud.
7. Return to Pagecloud and select Check status.
8. Wait for the root and www hostnames to show DNS connected and SSL active.

AI verification records can be site-specific. Do not reuse records from the previous AI Site.

To a classic Pagecloud site

1. Open the destination site’s Domain setup.
2. Add the domain.
3. Confirm the DNS provider uses the classic Pagecloud records from Connect a custom domain to Pagecloud.
4. Return to Pagecloud and select Test connection.
5. Wait for SSL to become active.

Step 3: Set the preferred address

After the domain and SSL are connected, choose whether the root domain or www is the Preferred URL. Test both versions in a private browser window.

If the destination cannot add the domain

Confirm that it was fully removed from the previous site. If Pagecloud still says the domain is already connected, contact support with:

• The domain name
• The source and destination site names
• Whether each site is an AI Site or a classic site
• The time you removed the domain
